Eddie M. Rogers Sr. was born on March 20, 1939 in Douglass, Texas to John and Ethel Rogers and was the first of 5 children.
He graduated from South Park High School and studied marketing at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. After a brief year at Lamar, he entered military service in the Army to serve in the Vietnam War as a radio specialist and was honorably discharged after the war ended. He then began using his marketing experience in sales and management roles at various companies before retiring due to his health. One of his most rewarding jobs was when he was a simple milk man servicing milk routes in some of the poorer areas of Houston, primarily, Dickinson, Sante Fe and Texas City. He modeled, loving all people, no matter who they were, or where they came from. Frequently, he forgave debts owed in these communities, simply because he felt called by God to do so, many times to his own detriment.
Eddie called many cities home over the years, many times moving where he was called to serve. He resided in Douglass, TX, Nacogdoches TX, Fort Riley, KS, Beaumont, TX, Lufkin TX, Pasadena, TX and Jasper, TX before spending his final 16 years as resident of League City, TX.
Eddie enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, playing cards and dominoes and watching football and baseball games, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He modeled for us all what true Christian character looks like. He was loving, kind, patient and humble as he embodied these traits as a firm believer in Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Rogers and his sister Linda Brammer. He is survived by his sons, Eddie M. Rogers, Jr and wife, Kathleen, John Henson-Rogers and husband, MacMichael Henson-Rogers; grandchildren, Andrew Rogers, Christopher Rogers, Erin Rogers, Olivio Henson-Rogers and Jameson Henson-Rogers; brother, Aubrey Rogers; sisters, Marilyn Morrell and Patricia Brasher; 32 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 9:30am to 10:30am at First United Methodist Church Missouri City, 3900 Lexington Blvd, Missouri City, Texas. Funeral services to follow at 10:30am. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 3:30pm at Douglass Cemetery, in Douglass, Texas near Nacogdoches, Texas, in East Texas.
