Winifred F. Koenig, nee Primeau, (Winnie) of St. Peters, Missouri, Fortified by the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away Saturday, January 20th, 2018, at the age of 92. She was born on March 20th, 1925 to the late Anthony and Myrtle Primeau.

Dearest wife of the late Norbert Koenig. Loving mother of Mike (Stephanie) Koenig, Sue Ann (Paul) McNeill, and the late Eddie and Kevin Koenig.

She is survived by her sister Margie (the late Carl) Scholle, and preceded in death by her brother Norman (the late Faye) Primeau and her sister Doris (the late John) Bernat.

Dear grandmother of Christopher, Shannon, Steve, Jason and Jackson. Dear great grandmother of Colin, Brooke, Cody, Alayna, Mason, Alyssa, Zac, Taylor and Evan.

Winnie and Norb moved to St.Peters in 1946 to begin truck farming fruits and vegetables. They sold their produce to the wholesalers on Produce Row and to the grocery stores in the surrounding area. A greenhouse was started to raise plants for their own use and to plant in their fields. They also raised flowers to sell. Eventually, they opened a produce stand on Highway 70 which moved over the years to the final location at Cave Springs. Winnie was known to many, many people from working at the stand and greenhouse. On trips to Hawaii, Colorado, and Boston, she was recognized by customers. Every fall, the “pumpkin people” she made for “Pumpkin Village” at the stand, drew in thousands of school children to tour the village. She would hear how parents or grandparents had brought them to the village, and now they were bringing their own children to see “Mayor Spook” and explore the village. Winnie helped make fun memories for generations of children.

She loved to paint flowers and scenic pictures, and to go fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks with Norb at the close of the stand in the fall. She enjoyed quiet, relaxing visits to fish on the Mississippi and to go to Williamsburg and watch the birds, deer and turkeys wander about the woods.

Winnie appreciated the loving care she received from her caregivers over the past years. They provided not only help with her daily needs, but also provided the comfort and companionship that made her days brighter.

Memorial contributions may be made in Winnie’s honor to The Anthony and Myrtle Primeau Endowment Fund, which benefits Mercy Burn Unit, or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of All Saints Parish, which provides assistance to those in need in the St. Peters community, or to the charity of your choice.
