Charles H Layman, County Judge of Jackson County from 1872 to 1876, and a practicing Attorney at Benton since the year 1881, died at his home in Benton, Monday, after a few days illness. He was 63 years old.

He served as a Private in the 89th Illinois. During the administration of President Hayes, he served as Attorney General of the then territory of Wyoming. He has been a prominent factor in Republican political affairs in Franklin County for many years.
