Nina Lee Walker was born April 1, 1924 on a farm near Calhoun, Tennessee. She paid her way through Tennessee Technological University with her own savings and her work in the College Library. Two years into college she began teaching first and second grade in Riceville, Tennessee with a teaching certificate and continued college during the summers. After receiving her B.S. Degree in 1954, she taught at the TTU Teacher Training School while attending summer sessions at Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville to earn an M.S. degree in 1957.

In 1958, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama to care for her mother. She taught second grade at Blossomwood Elementary briefly, then became the first-grade teacher at Monte Sano Elementary School when it opened. For 30 years she educated the children of the Monte Sano community, until retiring in 1988.

After retirement she continued to contribute to her community through tutoring, substitute teaching, and volunteering at the Adult Learning Center, the Methodist Service Center, and Friends of the Library. She was a docent at Burritt Museum, a telephone assurance volunteer for CASA, and active member of the Monte Sano Woman's club, serving as president, vice-president, and secretary.

As a Christian and member of the Monte Sano United Methodist Church she was church librarian, taught Sunday school, worked in Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Nina resided at Magnolia Trace for 13 years.

She was preceded in death by her brother, R.D. (Rod) Walker.
