Funeral services for Coy Lavughn Barrett, 95, of Edgewood, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, January 26, 2018, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. Burial will follow at Small Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

Coy Lavughn Barrett was born November 3, 1922, in Fruitvale, TX, to parents, Ed Barrett and Rettie Pickens Barrett. He was raised in Fruitvale and the Small community in Edgewood. Coy married Ruby Jones on December 5, 1942, in Terrell, TX, and they were married for 64 years. He was a World War II veteran, farmer and worked at Ford Motor Company for 20 years. Coy then worked for Trane Manufacturing Company in Tyler before retiring in 1987. He was known in East Texas for his fiddle playing and played with many well-known bands. Later in life Coy enjoyed playing for many churches.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Rettie Barrett; his wife, Ruby Jones Barrett; three brothers, R.L. Barrett, Leslie Barrett and Lawrence (Red) Barrett; sister, Maxine James, two infant sisters and one grandson, Brian Goode.

Coy is survived by his son, Johnny Barrett and wife, Glenda, of Edgewood; daughters, Jennie Barrett of Dallas and Cathy Hoegger and husband, James, of Edgewood; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends throughout the area; and a special friend, Doris Prestidge.

Coy lived 95 years while driving his pick up to the very end.
