Margaret Rockwell Finch, 96
CAPE ELIZABETH -

Margaret Rockwell Finch, well-known to her many friends as "Maggie," passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at St. Joseph's Manor in Portland, after having lived life to the fullest.

Her residence of many years was the oldest house in Bath, known as King's Landing (the King's Dock).

She then lived for a time at Portland's Seventy-Five State Street and at Cape Memory Care in Cape Elizabeth.

Maggie was an artist and wrote poetry for nearly 90 of her 96 years, having grown up on Cape May Point, N.J., where monarch butterflies gather for migration.

Author of four books of poetry -- "Davy's Lake," "Sonnets from Seventy-Five Years," "Barefoot Goose," and "Crone's Wines" -- and short stories/works published in several anthologies, she served as co-president of the Maine Poets Society from 2009 to 2014.

Maggie was the widow of Henry LeRoy Finch, of New Rochelle, N.Y., a noted professor of philosophy; and is survived by their five children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Maggie was pleased to say that after such a long and healthy life, her body would one day help further scientific and medical research through the University of New England.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
