LaVerne E. Moore, 92, of Forsyth, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

LaVerne was born June 22, 1925, in Cincinnati, IA to Elgie Ellsworth and Eva (Perry) Moore. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Virginia M. Jennings on December 22, 1946, in Decatur, IL. LaVerne is a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was a member of Purple Martin Conservation Association. LaVerne enjoyed genealogy, gardening, fishing, reading, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and studying the Bible.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Virginia; one son, Richard Moore of Forsyth; two daughters, Kathryn (Kevin) Montgomery of Maroa and Karen Thomas of Decatur; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Taylor and Scarlett; two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Gavin; one brother, Wayne Moore of Centerville, IA; and two sisters, Darlene Wengler of Brooksville, FL and Colleen (Cloyd) Swartz of Newton, IA; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Moore; one brother, Larry Moore and one sister, Vivian Cochran.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of LaVerne Moore will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Tabernacle Baptist Church 650 N Wyckles Rd, Decatur, IL 62522.
