Mary Sue Slay, age 80, formerly of Lovilia, passed away on Friday morning, January 19, 2018 at Oakwood Specialty Care, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice of Albia. She was born on September 16, 1937 in Lovilia to Wilmer and Susie (Waters) Blomgren.
She graduated from Lovilia High School, class of 1956. She worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Albia, and then transferred with the company to Hot Springs, Arkansas. She worked with the company for twenty-five years, until her retirement in 1997.
Mary Sue enjoyed golfing, playing cards with her Canasta Club, bowling, and visiting with friends at Boss Hogs.
Survivors include her children, Rick Dunkin of Ankeny, Kim Klyn of Mesa, Az, Todd (Danelle) Slay of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Stacey Klyn, Vanessa Barber, Michael Dunkin, Brooklynn Slay, six great grandchildren; siblings, Junior Blomgren of Lovilia, Jerry Blomgren of Ottumwa, Sherry Clark of Centerville, Judy (Bill) Jones of Albia, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Susie Blomgren; infant sister, Marilyn Blomgren; sister, Sharon Speck; nephew, Kevin Bunch, and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Blomgren, and Correne Blomgren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Albia with Pastor Nancy Reed officiating. Burial will follow services in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and Mary Sues family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evening, January 24, 2018 at Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel in Lovilia.
