Church Point, La. Julia “JuJu” Daigle Jacobs, age 85, passed away on Friday, Dec. 26 at Park West Hospital surrounded by her family. Julia was a native of Church Point, Louisiana, born February 27, 1929. She was a graduate of Gulf Park College for Women in Gulf Port, MS and from SLI, what is now University of Louisiana in Lafayette with a BS in Home Economics. As a student there, she was celebrated for her charm and beauty. In one amazing week, she was crowned both Camellia Queen and R.O.T.C. Queen. After college, she worked for Gulf States Electric as a Home Demonstration Agent in Lake Charles, LA. She moved back to Church Point and married John C. Broussard of Maurice, LA. Until children came along, she taught Home Economics at Church Point High. Once she began her family, she was a dedicated homemaker and mother. In 1971, she began a new life as wife to the late Carroll W. Jacobs. In that year the family moved to Knoxville, TN. She embraced her new home and built a loving environment for her children and later for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to work in her yard, planting annuals around her patio to make her outside environment welcoming and relaxing. She created a safe haven for all of her family and she was our greatest supporter. She was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville. “JuJu” had an unquenchable thirst for travel. She traveled to Europe several times, sometimes with her cousins from Church Point and often with her daughters, daughter-in-law, Lori and her grandchildren. She also saw the Far East, South America, Central America, Mexico, Hawaii and Tahiti. She cruised the Mediterranean, the South Pacific and through the Panama Canal. Two special trips were in her long list. Most special was her last trip to Rome to attend the wedding of her son Mark to Lia at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. The other was a trip to Slovakia where she visited the birthplace of her grandfather, John Horecky, who immigrated to Church Point in the early 1900s.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Carroll W. Jacobs; parents, Roosevelt and Genevieve(Horecky) Daigle; infant sister, Val Louise Daigle; brothers, Charles F. Daigle and John H. Daigle-all of Church Point.
She is survived by children, Jeanne Broussard Cauldwell (Malcolm), Michelle Broussard Rainwater (George), J. Mark Broussard (Lia), Andre G. Broussard (Lori)-all of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Woodson Criner, and John Criner of Knoxville and Andrew Criner (Kasey) of Millington, TN and Taylor Broussard, Emily Broussard, John Mark Broussard of Knoxville and great-grandchildren, Maggie Criner and Chandler Criner of Millington.
Special thanks are extended to her loving caregivers, Becky Nicola, Connie Johnson and Gaya Wolfenbarger. With their loving care she was able to live her last year in her own home. A true blessing. Thanks are also extended to Dr. Micheal Bernard who kept her healthy for so many years and to her last physician, Dr. Andrews Paul and nurses Mallory Dietz and Debbie Barrs at Park West Hospital who provided excellent and compassionate care in her last days.
