Dorothea Rose (Mountz) Bach a retired Northville teacher, wife of Bernard R. Bach passed away December 16, 2017.

Born in Chicago, August 22, 1925, to Russell and Alice (Suter) Mountz, the family moved to Saginaw, Michigan two years later. After graduating from Arthur Hill high school then, four years later from the University of Michigan, she returned to Arthur Hill and taught senior high English.

While pursuing her Master degree, she met and married her husband of 67 years.

The couple remained in Ann Arbor to finish their degree work. Upon graduation she received an offer to teach at Parcells Middle School in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

Eventually moving to Plymouth and then to Northville. Her life centered around raising their four children. She was active in all areas of the children’s education and volunteered whenever needed.

Still wanting to get back in the classroom, she substitute taught for nearly three years before a contract position opened. She taught seventh grade English at both Cooke and Meads Mill Middle Schools before retiring in 1986.

Fond of young people, she had youthful friends where ever she went. It was not unusual for adults to approach her and acknowledge her as their seventh grade English teacher and say, “Remember when.”

In addition to her BA and MA degrees she pursued education throughout her career. Even after her retirement, she became part of the Madonna University education department. For nine years she worked with beginning education students as well as a supervisor for student teachers.

Native to many Northville activities, she was a member of the Northville Mothers’ Club, member of the Our Lady of Victory Parish for many years. The Bachs later became members of the St. James Parish when they moved nearer the parish.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, Bernard “Bernie”, she is survived by her children Bernard R. Bach, Jr., M.D., and wife Elizabeth, Stephanie Ann Harty and husband Jack, Gregory R. Bach and wife Sue, and David M. Bach, as well as 12 grandchildren, David, Laura, Matthew, Gretchen, Sarah, John, and Mark Bach. Also Stuart, Frances Harty-Roman, Russell, Charles, and Anna Harty. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Russ.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a time of gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 Ten Mile Road, Novi.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Capuchin Soup Kitchen, 1820 Mount Elliot Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
