Obituary: Carol W. Byers, 65, of Lancaster, PA died Friday, June 13, 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Clyde M. and Ethel Falk Whitaker. She was the loving wife of John W. Byers to whom she had been married for 45 years. Carol was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. After graduation, she was a legal secretary for Armstrong World Industries. Always active in her children's activities, she served as Girl Scout leader and President of PTO when her daughters were in school. She served as a health room and cafeteria aide at the elementary schools of Manheim Twp. School District. She was a Sunday School teacher and choir member at Trinity Lutheran Church and, more recently, pas treasurer of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. For a time, Carol worked as a decorator at Dannemann's Fabric Store. She was a past president of Lancaster Area Sewing Network and member of Red Rose Quilters and Embroiderers Guilds. She was past owner of Carol's Creativity. Her hobbies included: crafts of all types, scrapbooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, vacationing at Ocean City, NJ and spending time with her family. She receive her greatest joy by having the opportunity to help care for her grandsons from the time they were 8 weeks old. Some people accept the world as it is; others try to make a difference. Carol left this world a better place. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly, wife of Michael Herr of Lititz, PA and Jennifer, wife of Jason Kopp of Dallastown, PA and her beloved grandsons, Thomas and Nicholas Herr and Justin and Jackson Kopp. (Intelligencer Journal - Jun 17, 2014)
