He was born on September 14, 1942 in Warsaw, Indiana to Stanley Lawrence Newton and Flora Lee (Clymer) Newton.
Jerry was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana and a 1960 graduate of Mentone High School. He started Newton and Sons Excavating in Warsaw in 1977, which he owned and operated until his passing. Still a family owned business where he was able to work with his son. Jerry loved the outdoors, was a fix-it man, and he very much enjoyed working at the shop and helping people. Most of all he loved his family and grandchildren dearly.
He will be lovingly remembered by his fiancée: Linda Odem (Warsaw, Indiana); two sons: Troy (wife Kristy) Newton (Warsaw, Indiana); Tim Newton (Warsaw, Indiana); daughter: Shantel (husband Kent) Garrett (Noblesville, Indiana); stepson: Jake Odem (Kendallville, Indiana); and three-stepdaughters: Jodie Keister (Albion, Indiana); Jamie (husband Ryan) Teders (Avilla, Indiana); and Danielle (husband Grant) Uhlig (Ligonier, Indiana). Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Katey, Steve, Ashley, Nick, Riley, Jason, Renee, Arianna, Callie, and Zach; six step-grandchildren: Kyanna, Kyarra, Kyowa, Gabe, Justen and Ailey; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Andrew Newton (Florida); Joe (wife Lynn) Dzierla (South Bend, Indiana); and two sisters: Connie (husband John) Brown (Burket, Indiana); Nancy (husband Marty) Noble (Washington State). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leisa Marie Rossi, in 2011; and two brothers, Dan Newton and Jan Dzierla.
