Margaret Joanne Conner

October 2, 1930 - January 17, 2018

(Margaret) Joanne Conner passed peacefully at home on January 17, 2018 at the age of 87. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 2, 1930 to Estelle (Dunevant) and Joseph Stephenson.

Joanne worked at two theatres in Memphis, the Normal Theatre and the Park Theatre as a ticket seller in the golden days of the movie industry. She also was a Clerk-typist for Plough Chemicals in Tennessee.

In 1946 while working at the theatre, she met her husband-to-be, Bobby C. Conner, when they were both attending a Memphis State University basketball game. They were married on April 8, 1950 in Memphis.

In 1951, after her husband's military service, Bobby landed a job with Philco Ford and with this new job a whirlwind of moves followed. Joanne packed up and relocated, with some stays longer than others, to Palermo, New Jersey…Savannah, Georgia… Oklahoma City, Oklahoma…Bellefontaine, Ohio… Thomasville, Alabama…Mobile, Alabama and finally Houston, Texas where she has lived since 1967.

For over 40 years she has lived in the same home in the Clear Lake area, at one point along with some of her beloved Cocker Spaniels.

Joanne loved knitting, needlepoint and sewing. Over the years she presented many of these items as gifts to her family and friends. She was also a "master" lasagne chef, which was enjoyed by many. She volunteered for a period of time with Clear Lake Hospital. She was an avid 10-pin bowler (until her knees gave out) and loved to play any kind of card games. During her life, Joanne enjoyed travelling and seeing the sights in places throughout the United States including Alaska, as well as Europe and Canada.

She is preceded in death by her parents (Estelle and Joe), brothers (Warren, Richard and Dickey Stephenson), an infant sister, Sarah, and most recently her daughter Cathe Conner.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Conner, son Stephen Conner and wife Janet of Frisco, Texas, granddaughter Becky and husband Jeff Townley of Roanoke, Virginia with great-grandson Alex Townley. She is also survived by nieces and nephews from the Houston and Memphis areas.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Forest Park Funeral Home 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Forest Park Funeral Home.

Interment to immediately follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
