Virginia Beach - Agnes Mae (Chase) McMakin, 88, of Virginia Beach died on December 31, 2017. She was born January 17, 1929 and raised in Dennis Port, Massachusetts on Ole Cape Cod the daughter of Joseph S. Chase and Ruth C. (Bassett) Chase. As a young lady working at Maloney's Drug Store, Dennis Port she met the love of her life, returning WWII veteran John McMakin. They were married at the chapel on Parris Island, SC as John went back to active duty as a Marine Drill Instructor for the Korean War and the two spent the next 20 years traveling between Dennis Port and many Marine Corps bases across the country raising their three sons. Life after the Marine Corps was spent in Dennis Port working together managing several ventures as well as owning and operating Ply-Gems Cape Cod Decor. In 1985 Agnes and John retired to Virginia Beach for a warmer climate and to be closer to family and friends.

Agnes was a loving matriarch who enjoyed family gatherings. From holiday dinners to summer cookouts to her annual Memorial Day party Agnes took great pleasure in bringing together her ever growing family.
