It is with great sadness that we announce Twila's passing at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Guelph on Saturday, July 9, 2016, after a long journey with brain cancer.
Happily married to Dan for 44 years. Loving daughter of Eileen (nee Rea) Nethercott. Proud mother of Scott (Kelly Marchand), Connie (Paul Remole) and Greg. Devoted grandma to Sarah and Brooklyn Marchand-Allen. Sister of Tim (Rose) Smith. Sister-in-law of Dan's twin brother Don Allen and Tom (Trudi) Allen. Dear niece of Wallace McKee and Marj Smith. Will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by her father Ken Smith, step-father Ken Nethercott, two brothers in infancy, her grandparents Hugh and Agnes Smith and Gordon and Connie Rea, aunts and uncles Verda Rea Helgerman, Marion McKee, Mac Smith and Jim and Violet Smith.
Twila was born in Listowel on January 21, 1953 and has lived in Kitchener since she was a child. Over the years she worked as a counter hostess at KFC, a secretary at IBM, Canada Trust Realty and Century 21 Real Estate and a directory assistance operator at Nordia. She loved doing crafts, especially knitting and crocheting and made many beautiful blankets and sweaters for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, crossword puzzles and sudoku.
Thank you to dear friends for so much support and encouragement. Thank you to Mike Costello and everyone at Keybrand Foods where her husband Dan worked for many years. Thanks to the many wonderful medical personnel who guided Twila on this journey, especially Dr. Lubitz (Kitchener), Dr. Torres and Dr. Greenspoon at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, and the many nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre for keeping Twila comfortable in her final days.
