Archie Junior Simmons, 85, of Roanoke County, Va., went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 25, 2015.

Archie was born in Floyd County, Va., on January 17, 1930, a son of the late Archie Ray and Willie Semones Simmons. He served in the United States Army (Sgt.) during the Korean Conflict, graduated from National Business College with a Junior Accounting Degree and Associate of Arts Degree in Management. Archie retired in 1993 from Nelson Roanoke Hardware with 44 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 23 years, Myrtle Blankenship Simmons and is survived by his second wife of 21 years, Betty Manning Simmons; his son, David Ray Simmons and wife, Donna of Roanoke; his stepdaughters, Sherry M. Ancarrow and husband, Brian of Ruther Glen, Va., and Lisa M. Angle and husband, Dwayne of Wirtz, Va.; his grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Simmons of Roanoke; his stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Moore, Christopher, Joshua and Patrick Ancarrow, Leslie, Laura and Daniel Angle; his sister, Pauleda Cox of Christiansburg; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert Blankenship and wife, Nina, Marie Greer and husband, Charles, Carlton Manning, Alvin Manning, Maxine Lee, JoAnn Poff and David Manning and wife, Betty. He also leaves behind many friends he has made over the years of his life.

The family would like to say "Thanks" to all the medical people, hospital and nursing homes for their care and love for Archie over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to Red Hill Church of the Brethren, 6050 Franklin Road, Roanoke, VA 24014 in memory of Archie.

A service celebrating his life will be held at Red Hill Church of the Brethren at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, with the Rev. Tony Emmons officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
