Ruby Mae McMahan Straughn of Columbus died Thursday, March 11, 2004. The last of ten children, she was born April 25, 1920 in Macon, GA to the late General Gates and Eliza Green McMahan. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband Wiley Thomas Straughn. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Aufderheide of Dublin and Sandra (John) Scheider of Frankfort, IN; grandchildren, Cynthia (Frank) Kibby of Tulsa, OK, Michael (Colleen) Aufderheide of Chicago, IL, Matthew (Kimberley) Aufderheide of Centerburg, OH, Vicki (Eric) Kronemeyer of Elkhart, IN, Lisa (Frank) Lee of Louisville, KY, William (Kim) Louden of Chesapeake, VA, John (Lisa) Lowden of South Bend, IN; 14 great-grandchildren, and many beloved family members. Before moving to Columbus in 1985, Ruby and her husband lived in Indianapolis and Paducah, KY. She retired from L.S. Ayres Department Store in Indianapolis where she was the Personnel Administrator. One of the first residents of Worthington Christian Village, Ruby enjoyed volunteering her time. Her cheerful disposition and infectious smile will always be remembered. Funeral service wil be held 3 p.m. Saturday March 13, 2004 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 N. High St., Worthington. (614)885-4006. (Funeral home is on High St., four blocks south of state route 161) Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Kingwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to Worthingotn Christian Village, 165 Highbluffs Blvd., Columbus, OH 43235, in Ruby's memory.

Her father Gates married 1st in 1893 to Laura McGee who died in 1900 after 4 children were born. In 1902 he married Eliza Jane Green and Ruby was the 8th of 8 children born to Eliza.
