Edgar H. Paul, 86, of Center Township, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 14, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot. Mr. Paul was a longtime resident of Buffalo Township. Ed was born in West View on July 13, 1931, the son of the late Hugh Fitzpatrick Paul of Keith, Scotland, and Hilda (Hagan) Paul, of Middlesbrough, England. He was a graduate of West View High School. After graduating high school, Ed joined the Navy and became qualified for submarine duty. He was stationed aboard the USS Grenadier SS-525, a Tench-class submarine, during the Korean War. When his service to his country was complete and he received his honorable discharge, Ed came home to the Pittsburgh area and became the credit manager at Penn Builders Supply Co. He then became a staff accountant at Wilder, Londino, Sodini and Co. in Tarentum while attending night classes at Robert Morris College to earn his CPA designation. He later took a job with Pfund Superior Sales Co. in Lower Burrell as an ambulance and hearse salesman and simultaneously started his own accounting practice. Ed was always quick with a joke and enjoyed meeting and talking with people. His outgoing personality brought him much success as a salesman. He eventually focused only on his accounting practice, from which he retired in 1995. He was a member of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc. and Armstrong Lodge No. 239 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Freeport. In his retirement, he enjoyed going to his Sub Vets meetings and being the handyman around his accounting office. He was beloved by his family and countless friends made throughout his 86 years. Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Ann (Miller) Paul; their sons and daughters-in-law, Robert M. and Lorrie Paul, of Cabot, and Patrick J. and Janet Paul, of Sunderland, Mass.; his four grandchildren, Eric, Casey, Andrew and Adam Paul; as well as his sister, Mary P. (Edleman) Weller, of Gibsonia. Ed was preceded by his daughter, Karen Sue Paul, who passed in 1965; and his two sisters, Jessica P. (Anderson) Stankevich and Sheila Rogan. At Ed's request, there will be no public visitation, and the funeral will be private. He will be buried in the Allegheny County Memorial Cemetery in Allison Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United States Submarine Veterans Inc. Requin Base, 213 Andrew Drive, Glenshaw, PA 15116-1813; or in Ed's memory to a charity of your choice.
