He was born November 5, 1922, in West Bloomfield, MI. While in High School he excelled in debating and participated at state levels. He was an alumnus of the University of Michigan as well as graduating from Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago. He was ordained and called to his first church after just turning 20. In 1948 he was called to organize the new Burlingame Baptist Church in Burlingame, OR. He later left the ministry to start his own company, Missions Visualized, and produced over 200 mission movies for all of the major church denominations, as well as documentaries for the Ford Foundation, the Salvation Army, Chrysler International, the Air Force and other non-profit organizations. During this time, he travelled to over 70 countries.
In 1980 he moved to Carpinteria, where he met and married Dixie Clarke at the Carpinteria Community Church, which he later joined. He loved Carpinteria and could spend hours walking the cliffs overlooking the beaches and the parks.
In 1977, Lloyd felt a call to respond to an article in Time magazine about abandoned children in Brazil. He and Dixie formed Today's Child Charitable Trust, and he spent the next 25 years travelling to and from Brazil, focusing on placing small abandoned children in foster homes in Brazil. He worked closely with churches and Rotarians, in particular, District 5170, San Jose, where he and Loren Harper were each awarded the Service Above Self Award for their contribution. He retired in 2006.
After retirement, his great love was leading retreats on solitude, silent prayer and reflection at various churches and retreat centers in Southern California. This continued through the remainder of his active life.
He is survived by his 7 children, 3 stepchildren, 18 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Quinn Juniper Jackson, who was born on Dec. 18. Lloyd was able to see her photo and celebrate her birth before he passed away.
