1st wife: Sarah Hunter Mills
2nd wife: Elizabeth Collins

Married Sarah Hunter in 1826. They had 3 sons, Hope (married Malissa Hilton. Died in Vicksburg in 1863. Had 3 children) After 1832 Edward moved his family to Boone County, Kentucky. Sarah died shortly after 1840. Edward married Elizabeth Collins in 1842 and the family with 8 children moved to Texas in 1847 as part of the Peters' Colony. The Mills family received close to 1600 acres. In 1850 the state required the settlers to prove they had been living in Texas before 1848 by having an affidavit signed by two witnesses who knew the settler before July 1, 1848. One witness for Edward was John Neeley Bryan, founder of Dallas. After Elizabeth died in 1854, Edward married again to Martha Ann Sturdivant. Edward had a total of 24 children before his death.

Ed Mills came to Duck Creek before 1848 and owned a large tract of land part of which was owned by the late Festus Tinsley, who married Lydia Jacobs. Mills Cemetery is on part of that land. Ed Mills 2nd wife, Elizabeth Collins Mills was the 1st person buried in Mills Cemetery in 1854.
