C. Earl Butts, Jr. (nicknamed Babe as a child, Sprout by his family, and Junior by all who knew him) grew up around Fresno CA until his father remarried in 1938. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy just in time to be stationed in Hawaii on November 19, 1941 to Patrol Wing One, Patrol Squadron Twelve, at NAS Kaneohe, where he survived the famous "Pearl Harbor" attack. He married several times and had three daughters. He died of complications from diabetes in 1994.
