Edith (Dede or Ede) was a person of laughter and joy. She was raised on a farm between Perkins and Brighton near Sacramento on Folsom Boulevard and was close to her family her entire life. She was the youngest of six children, and was the child to care for her mother Cora before her death at age 99. Edith died of lung cancer. She smoked for sixty years, and although she had quit ten years before her death, it wasn't soon enough. Thoughts of her linger on each person she touched, particularly her daughter Cathy and son-in-law Gordon.
