Auburn – Maxine Stewart, 91, died at her home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn with Rev. Charles Bettin officiating and burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.
Maxine Valentine (Pierce) Stewart was born on February 14, 1926 on a farm Southeast of Spirit Lake, Iowa to Clarence and Myrtle (Kelly) Pierce. She graduated from Auburn Public School and on February 15, 1945 Maxine married Willard Stewart in Rockwell City. Maxine worked for her father grading eggs at Pierce Produce until 1960, she then worked at Watters Hardware and Auburn Enterprise for several years before purchasing and operating Stewart Hardware Store in Auburn until her retirement in 1986. Maxine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn.
Maxine is survived by her sons, Larry (Corrine) and Tommy, daughter-in-law, Judy, grandchildren, Janine (Patrick), Teresa (Todd), Kurtis (Sarah), Shawn, Tommy, and Sonya, and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Judy (Gail) and JoAnn, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard, in 1981, son, Michael Stewart, sister, Delores Pierce, brother, Morris Pierce, sister-in-law, Laura Pierce and brother-in-law, Rick Boss.
