Peggy Perkins Austin was born in Wilkes County on April 7, 1933, to Alec Perkins and Grace Satterwhite Perkins Gilreath. She departed this realm of time very quietly on Jan. 8, 2018, at the age of 84 years.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel, with Bishop George Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon, prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
She attended Lincoln Heights School. Much of her working years were spent in New Jersey at Lucent Technologies.  Upon retiring, she returned to Wilkesboro and spent time working for Dr. Thakkar in his home. His family counted her as a vital part in their lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Leroy Austin; two brothers, “Buck” Perkins and Wayne Matthews; and three sisters, Louise Abbott, Sarah Carlton and Grace Parsons.
She will be remembered by her nieces, nephews and close friends Linda and Myra.
