Enlisted 11/30/62 in Putnam Co. Detailed to cut wheat 6/19/63 at Shelbyville. Captured near Hillsboro 6/28/63. Sent to Camp Chase and transferred to Ft. Delaware. Exchanged 2/27/65. Sent to Knoxville as he took the Oath and then sent to Chattanooga. Was listed as a rebel deserter. Pension #1976 filed 5/25/1899 accepted. Living in Cookeville. Says prison experience disabled him. Born 2/26/1836 in Jackson Co. Had wife and 8 children. T.A. Head vouched for him. Doubtful if he was an actual deserter.
