Julia A. Sorquist, 80, of Butler passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

The daughter of Albert and Bessie (Freed) Hitchman, Julia was born November 4, 1937 in Butler and graduated from Butler High School.

Hard working, as a young woman, Julia worked at Therm-O-Disc. Later she was employed at the Flxible Bus Company and more recently Hi-Stat. When able, she’d tend to her flower gardens and was also known for her skillfulness in refinishing furniture. Julia made the best homemade cookies. Her holiday cutout cookies were family favorites.

Most of all Julia was proud of her Butler roots and close-knit large extended family. An independent and confident lady, she especially loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Robert (Suzanne) Sorquist and Renee (Ronald) Nussbaum all of Butler; grandchildren Angela (Scott) Palmer, Elizabeth Speckert, Brandi (Michael) Sauter, and Rodney Nussbaum; great grandchildren Lauren, Layne, Jackson, Cooper, and Caiden; sisters Roxanne McAuley and Connie Workman; sisters-in-law Eleanor and Maxine Hitchman; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings Helen (Virgil) Hess, Evelyn (Charles) Divelbiss, Marjorie (Merle) Hassinger, Marion (Royal) Gatton, Gustava Freed Teeter, Albert (Frankie) Hitchman, Richard Hitchman, and James Hitchman; brothers-in-law Richard McAuley and Robert Workman.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 from 4-7pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be Tuesday at 11am. Burial will follow in Zion Four Corners Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Worthington Township-Butler Fire and Rescue or the Butler Adult Life Center Nutrition Program may be made through the funeral home.
