He deeply lived his family and horses. He believed that a man's religion was demonstrated by how he lived his life; be kind, help others, and teach children to love nature and how respect for other's ideas. He believed that a man should voice his opinions and could learn a lot by listening to the opinions of others. He valued education and he had a creative mind. He felt a man should defend his family and country with pride and honor. Vivian Russell proudly served as a soldier in New Guinea, in the second World War. He served his community as a sanitation driver and as a fireman.
He prided himself in his honesty and admired those who demonstrate honesty, integrity, and kindness. He was the father he didn't have to be, who was strict, demanded and demonstrated high moral standards, and insisted that one must respect himself before he could show respect to others. He was always ready to share a story, especially if it would prove a point.
He loved his wife, his children, his extended family, and animals. His wife, his family, and his animals cherished him in return.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Leona Russell of Alamogordo, NM; son, John Benjamin Ayers of Las Cruces, NM; daughters, Claudia St. Clair of Rio Rico, AZ and Tammy Baker of Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren, Russell Howard Ayers of Carlsbad, NM, Melissa Ayers Hildebrandt of Las Cruces, NM, and Tianna and Kaidyn Lawrence of Alamogordo, NM; great grandsons, Colin and Austin Hildebrandt of Las Cruces, NM.
