Judith Ellen Larson, 61, passed away at 4:00am on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN. Judi was born on August 27, 1956 in South Bend, the daughter of Robert A. and Carol (Anderson) Larson of Granger, IN, both of whom survive. On June 10, 2017 in South Bend, Judi was united in marriage to Carl Arelt, who also survives.

In addition to her husband and parents, Judi is survived by two sisters, Bethann Book of Ada, MI, and Susan (David) Carich of Noblesville, IN; as well as four nieces and nephews, Matthew Book of Battle Creek, MI; Larson Book of West Palm, FL; Abigail (Cole) Schluchter of Minneapolis, MN; and Megan Carich of Noblesville, IN.

Judi graduated from Clay High School in South Bend and attended Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Library Science. She also graduated from California State University in Sacramento, CA, with a Master of Social Work.

Judi had a beautiful voice and was a lifetime lover of music. She was a member of the Clay High School swing choir, South Bend Symphonic Choir, and South Bend Chamber Singers. She and her friend, Gabriela Winkler, formed "The Swing Sisters," and they performed in nursing homes and various other venues.

Judi endured numerous treatments for cancer in the past 29 years, and yet, she considered this her journey. She did this with grace and perseverance. Despite the many years of chemotherapy and radiation, she was able to continue to enjoy her love of music and books.

The family wishes to thank the hospice staff, especially Tracy Freeze, for Judi's care these past few months. We also want to thank the staff at Center for Hospice Care for their compassionate and loving care.

A memorial service will be held for Judi at 11:00am on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 Haney Avenue, South Bend, IN. Rev. Jeff Zell will officiate. Graveside services and interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30-11:00am on Saturday at the church prior to the service. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
