British Royal Navy Admiral, 1st Baronet Duckworth. He served with distinction in the British Navy, with his career lasting from 1759 until his death. His various commands include the HMS Rover, the HMS Terrible, the HMS Yarmouth, the HMS Bristol, the HMS Bombay Castle, the HMS Princess Royal, the HMS Orion, and the HMS Leviathan, as well as commander of Leeward Islands Station, Jamaica Station, the Mediterranean Fleet, Governor of Newfoundland and Commander-in-Chief of the Newfoundland Squadron, and the Plymouth Command. His illustrious career saw him participating in Seven Years' War (Battle of Quiberon Bay), the American Revolutionary War (Battle of Grenada), the French Revolutionary Wars (Glorious First of June, (Capture of Minorca (1798), Capture of St. Bartholomew and St. Martin, Ferrol Expedition (1800), and Blockade of Cadiz), the Napoleonic Wars (Atlantic campaign of 1806), Battle of San Domingo, Dardanelles Operation, and Alexandria expedition of 1807), the Haitian Revolution, and the War of 1812. He died at the Plymouth Naval Base in Plymouth, England at the age of 69 while serving as commander of the Plymouth Command. Among his awards and honors include the Naval Gold Medal, the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, and Swords of Honor from London and Jamaica.
