Belhaven, NC - Gerald R. Hayes, 90, of Belhaven, NC, formerly of Forked River, NJ, passed away on January 6, 2018, at River Trace Nursing & Rehab Center, Washington, NC. He was born in Yale Michigan. He lived in Michigan, and Lakehurst, Toms River, and Forked River, NJ; before moving to Belhaven, five years ago.

Gerald worked for Toms River Chemical Corp for over thirty years as a Safety Coordinator, retiring in 1984. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. Gerald was a member of the Lakehurst United Methodist Church, past member of Lakehurst First Aid Squad, and member and Past President of Lakehurst Board of Education. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and will be dearly missed by them.

Gerald was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan Audrey Hayes in 2010. He is survived by his two sons: Dennis Thompson and his wife Claire of Land-O-Lakes, FL, and Stephen Hayes and his wife Kathy of Beachwood, NJ; and his three daughters: Susan Ratkowski and her husband Jim of Belhaven, NC, Laurel Polhemus and her husband Tim of Beachwood, NJ, and Lisa Horton and her husband Ken of Huntsville, AL. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Heather, TJ, Greg, Karen, Jeff, Eric, Jenn, and David; and his great-grandchildren: Tyler, Sean, Morgan, Luke, Declan, Michael, Addison, and Caleb.

Visitation will be Monday, January 15th, from 2-4 & 7-9PM, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. The Funeral Committal Service will be Tuesday at 12:30PM, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ, followed by Navy Honors.
