He was killed in battle at Fox's Gap on South Mountain near Boonsboro, MD on 14 September 1862. He had enlisted as a Private in Company F, 100th Pennsylvania Infantry in Princeton on 27 August 1861. He was then an 18 year old farmer in East Brook, PA. (From the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Adjutant-General, "Pennsylvania Civil War Veterans' Card File, 1861-1866")
