Vernon Clarence Shelton, age 83, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, January 10th in the De Queen Medical Center. He was born to Clarence Jackson and Myrtle Viola Vanscoder Shelton in Shinewell, Oklahoma on March 15, 1934.

He served in the military with the US Navy, and was retired from the State of Oklahoma where he was a Forest Ranger Chief. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church of De Queen, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cows, and cherished the time spent with family, especially his grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Clifford Shelton, Inez Clark, Della Hill, Betty Watson, and Emmitt Shelton.

He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, a son and daughter-in-law, two grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, a great-grandson, five brothers and sisters-in-law, two sisters and a brother-in-law, a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Vernon Shelton will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2018 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military rites will follow in the West Otis Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will be Saturday, January 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Chandler Funeral Home.
