Howard Wayne Owen, 79, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at Taylor House in Des Moines, IA.
A Memorial Service will be held on a future date.
Howard was born March 10, 1938, in Allerton, IA, to Leonard and Ailene (Morgan) Owen.
He married Hazel Benton in March of 1980. Together they enjoyed 37 years of marriage.
He worked as an over the road truck driver for several companies including Food Services of America, Brady Motor Freight, and EMCO/Ryder Transportation (where he received the Trucker of the Month Award) for over 40 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a member of the StarCraft Camper Club and the Wild Rose Camping Club. Howard and Hazel enjoyed spending the winters in south Texas after retirement. He was an avid woodworker and could always be found tinkering in the garage or starting a new home improvement project. With his quick wit and sense of humor, he made friends wherever he went.
Howard is survived by his wife, Hazel Owen; children, Larry (Betty) Owen of Reno, NV, Donna Reed of Des Moines, IA, David (Teri) Owen of Mitchellville, IA; and his stepchildren Steve (Cindi) Sinclair of Woolstock, IA, David (Julie) Sinclair of Lee’s Summit, MO, Lori (Richard) Roberts of Johnston, IA; nephew, Dean Owen of Indianola, IA; many other nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and his favorite dog, Casey.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Owen; mother, Ailene Owen; brother, Jerry Owen; and daughter, Leigh Ann Eipperle; and grandson Larry D. Owen Jr.
