The daughter of Charles and Sarah J. (Ripley) Tillson.

Nellie was 17 years of age when she married 22 year-old Obed Clark Pratt, the son of Joshua and Mary Ann (Furgerson), at Plymouth on Jan. 13, 1869. They were the parents of three children, including Franklin, born Sept. 6, 1869; Ellen B., born Jan. 24, 1871; and Frank E., born April 24, 1877. Their son Franklin died of Diphtheria on March 24, 1877, a month before Sarah delivered her youngest.

Obed was appointed Superintendent of the Plymouth Alms House, a position he held for 20 years until the time of his death. He was assisted in overseeing the 35 bed facility by his wife who was matron, and received a salary of $450 per year, which was increased to $600 per year by 1905. The facility had a reputation for being clean, organized, and well run. Admissions were for the most part kept low, as in 1905 when there were only eight residents.

Nellie survived her husband Obed, who died in 1907, by 21 years.
