Son of Uriah and Viola (Tennant) Short.

Grandson of William Orlando Tripp McDonald and Grace May (Short) Tripp Cortright; and Adelbert Eugene and Blanche Evelyn (Slater) Tennant.

Great-grandson of Uriah Short, Jr. and Diana M. (Foster) Short. Through this line Duane is descended from Caleb and Simeon Nichols (father and son) of Apalachin, who fought in the Revolutionary War.

He will be greatly missed.

Obituary: Duane Short, 76, of Tioga Center, N.Y., passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa.

He was born in Apalachin, N.Y., on February 22, 1931, the son of the late Uriah and Viola (Tennant) Short. He was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond and Phillip.

Duane is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lillian (Hosmer) Short; five children, Keith Short, Tioga Center, N.Y., Kevin (Trudi) Short, Florida, Brian Short, Tioga Center, Crystal (Chris) Papastrat, Binghamton, N.Y., Kathleen (Harold) Brown, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; brothers, Melvin (Agnes) Short, Oliver (Betty) Short, Dale Short; sisters, Mavis McDuffee, Yvonne Pollard; several nieces and nephews.

Duane was a past member of the Owego Lions and veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the Army. He enjoyed hunting and his pets, but mostly he was known for being able to fix most anything and loved to tinker with old tv's and electronics. Duane spent his life in the printing business and worked for many local printing establishments, finally opening his own shop called the Tioga Publishing Company.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. Donations in Duane's name may be made to the Tioga Center Emergency Squad, Tioga Center, N.Y. 13845. Arrangements are with Richards Funeral Home, Rt. 17c West, Owego, N.Y. 13827.
