GRANBURY - Thomas "Ted" Edgar Houston, 93, left this earthly life to join eternal life with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 in Granbury.

Memorials: For those moved to pay tribute to Ted in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to: Honor flight, Inc., Attn: Diane Gresse, 175 South Tuttle Rd., Springfield, OH 45505.

Ted was born on Feb. 13, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although a proud Ohio State Buckeye, Ted was delighted to call Texas home from the time he completed naval flight training in Corpus Christi to the time of his passing.

A man of varied talents and skills, Ted's career started as a U.S. naval aviator during World War II.

Later, his professional interest spanned real estate, life insurance, and construction. During one of his building projects, he fell for an attractive client by the name of Mary Alice McClanahan. A few years later Ted and Mary Alice were married and raised a family of four children in Euless. With a lifelong belief that serving others was more important than drawing attention to himself, Ted logged countless volunteer hours serving organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank of Tarrant County, Salvation Army, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Ministerial Alliance of Hillsboro, the Charter Schools of Waco and others.

Ted had an intrinsic interest in politics, including serving his community as an election judge and, as such, exemplified the refined art of having a strong opinion without the need to impose it on others.

Ted was an avid golfer and loyal Texas Rangers fan.

A quiet, gentle man, Ted was testament to the character and selflessness which depicts the "greatest generation". His family and those who love him celebrate a life of service, integrity, honesty, and faith. Although his loss will be felt profoundly, we are blessed to have shared his life and will forever be impacted by his grace and influenced by his example.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Mary Alice Houston; his second wife, Patricia Rohwer Houston; his daughter, Colleen Houston Delatour; and his sister, Miriam Houston.

Survivors: Children, Mike Houston and wife, JoAnne, Shannon Houston Mentesana and husband, Joseph, Pat Houston and wife, Amy; as well as his grandchildren, Kendrick, Wendy, Bobby, Callie, Madison, Alexa, Elissa, Joseph, Matteo, Gael, Alessandra; brothers, Bruce Maxon and David Houston; and countless extended family and loving friends.
