On January 4, 2018, Larry Alton Burt, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour. He lived a full, healthy, and enriched life up until his last year.

Larry was born November 29, 1943, to Billie Boyd and Virginia Ruth Grimes Burt in Glendale, California, while his father was serving in the Army. After the war and several moves within Texas, the Burt family settled in China Spring, near Waco.

His father, mother and brother-in-law Vernon Kroll preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be 11 am Thursday, January 11, 2018, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Rosewood Park.

As a licensed Funeral Director for fifty-four years, his blessings were many as he shared of himself with so many families throughout Longview and East Texas. He was initially employed by Connally Compton Funeral home in Waco, then worked for Lamar & Smith Funeral Home in Dallas while attending Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service in Dallas.

His career was interrupted when he enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. During his military service he was a decorated marksman and reconnaissance specialist with Security Police Control. While stationed at Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks, Alaska, he served as liaison for secure transmissions between the Alaska Air Command and Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska. Larry was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his improvements and versatility of security dispatch procedures for the 5010 Security Police Squadron. After military service he was employed by Anderson Clayton in Terrell before moving to Longview.

Larry was employed by Rader Funeral Home of Longview, Texas, for thirty-eight years. The dictionary defines compassion as a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. To Larry, Charley Rader lived compassion for those he served more than anyone he knew, and was honored to call Charley not only his employer, but his friend.

While Larry was a proud veteran and dedicated his career to relieving the suffering of families he served, his greatest love was his family.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Glenda Halpin Burt, their children Wendell and wife, Sheila Burt, and Virginia and husband, Brad Bunch. He was Poppy to five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Also surviving Larry are are brothers: Bill and wife, Sandra Burt of Lubbock Texas, Greg and wife, Kathy Burt of Valley Mills, Texas, sisters: Linda Kroll and Peggy and husband, Jimmy Kerr of China Spring, Texas, and Ann and husband, Marshall Owen of Waco, Texas, as well as many nephews and nieces.
