FRANK OSBORNE
1923 - 2017

Frank Osborne was born on June 15, 1923 in Butte, Montana. He attended primary school in Great Falls, Montana, secondary school in Santee, California and high school in Great Falls, Montana.

He joined the Army Air Corps in July 1941 and served at various Army Air Corps bases in the USA as an airplane mechanic, crew chief and flight engineer. Starting in December 1944, he served in the China-Burma-India campaign and returned to the USA after the war in December 1945. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.

After the war, he graduated from Spartan College of Aeronautical Engineering in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked as an aeronautical engineer at Rohr Aircraft, Chance Vought Aircraft and Douglas Aircraft.

He met his future wife the first day at Rohr Aircraft when she escorted him into the secured area of the plant. They were married in Dallas, Texas on December 3, 1949.

In 1988, he and his wife Joni moved to Orcutt, California after retiring from Douglas Aircraft after 33 years. He was offered a job as a design consultant at Aerocell in Santa Maria where he worked a flexible schedule until he was 78 years old.

Survivors include daughter Susan Osborne of Orcutt, son Jon Osborne and daughter in law Joyce Osborne of Clovis, grandsons Kevin Osborne of Pismo Beach and Jason Osborne, wife Angela Osborne and great granddaughter Shaylee Osborne of San Diego. He is also survived by his brother Glenn Osborne, sisters Carole Lovinger and Ione Osborne, all of Great Falls, Montana and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years and 7 months, Gladys (Joni) Osborne; his mother Catherine Osborne Burnette, sisters Jeanine Dawdy and Catherine Spencer and father Frank W. Osborne.

His hobbies were a lifetime interest in building and flying model airplanes and motorcycle touring and camping.

He belonged to the IBMC (International Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers), AMA (American Motorcycle Association), VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the American Legion Post 534.

Frank and Joni were regular members of the Orcutt Christian Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Orcutt Christian Church, 204 Patterson Road with Pastor Archie Miller officiating. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 in the original section of the Santa Maria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army.
