Clifton E. Clark, 79, of McComb passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2018.
Visitation is Friday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and continues Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church in McComb from 10:00 am until services at 11:00 am with Dr. Jimmy Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood cemetery.
Clif was born December 30, 1938 in Amite County to Charley Chapman and Effie Avant Clark.
He graduated Mars Hill High School in 1956 then served in the Mississippi National Guard before being honorably discharged. He graduated Southwest Mississippi Junior College in 1968 and attended Louisiana State University where he studied chemical engineering.
In 1961, Clifton married Rhoda Reardon of Smithdale. At the time, he was employed by Shell Oil, and they moved to New Orleans, LA. He later began a career in chemical sales eventually becoming Sales Manager. During this time, he serviced paper mills throughout the United States. In the 1970s, Clif fulfilled his dream of owning his own business by buying and operating Dixie Auto-Lec in downtown McComb. He became very active in the community and developed many lifelong friendships.
Family was very important to Clif. He was a very loving son, brother, husband, and father. At a very young age, he began taking care of his mother and was also very involved in his children's activities. He was a very devoted caregiver to his wife during her illness. Throughout their marriage, he and Rhoda loved hosting family gatherings. Clif was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed playing with his son and brothers. A highlight of his life was attending the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, GA. In more recent years, he enjoyed working with his cows and as he told his daughter, "just watching them."
Clif was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of McComb where he enjoyed serving as a greeter. He is a past member of McComb Jaycees, Rotary Club, and Downtown McComb, Inc. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball for several years. Other favorites of his were the 2nd Saturday Night Supper Club, of which he and his wife were members for 44 years, and his weekly morning coffee club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rhoda Alice Reardon Clark, who passed away in October 2017, and one brother, Charles Prentiss Clark.
Clif is survived by his son, Michael Clark of Smithdale, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Christopher Hart of McComb; his sister, Martha and David Busby of McComb; one brother and sister-in-law, Buford and Susan Clark of Madison; three sisters-in-law, Jean Clark of Gulfport, Berneda Wilkinson of Brandon, and Sammie Dickerson of Flora.
