Jo was born the daughter of James and Lena (Hurt) White in Willow Shade, Ky., on June 6th, 1915. Jo married Paul Thomason in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1946. She latter married Eugene Sweet in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1971.
Jo is survived by one daughter, Scheryl (Mike) Gaylor, two granddaughters, three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and four step greatgrandchildren.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and all six of her siblings.
Jo moved to Covington, IN, in the 1940’s where she lived until moving to Danville in 1973. Jo was a proud nurse, graduating from Lakeview School of Nursing in Danville in 1950. She loved being a nurse and worked for Dr. Stevens in Covington, as a private duty nurse in Danville, a pharmacy nurse at Lakeview Hospital, an onsite nurse at Olin (currently Flexel), and Director of Nursing at St. Elizabeth in Danville.
Jo retired at the age of eighty-five as the Director of Nursing at International Nursing Home. Upon her retirement, Jo volunteered every week at United Samaritan Hospital until the age of ninety-eight. As a long time member of the East Park Church of Christ, Jo founded the Thursday School program, she also was a member of the Teddy Bear program for the ER at United Samaritan Hospital and quilted for the Schultz-Lewis Children’s Home in Valparaiso, IN. Jo enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and shopping.
Visitation for Jo will be held on Thursday January 11, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, Il from 4-8 pm cst. Services will be held on Friday January 12, 2018 at East Park Church of Christ 1224 E. Voorhees St. Danville at 10 am cst. With Dennis Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, IL.
