Daniel Eugene “Papa” Rowland, 80, passed away January 8, 2018.
Dan was born September 21, 1937 in Dearborn, MI to Vera and Walter Rowland. He had retired from the U.S. Army in 1977 where he worked as a computer programmer, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. After retirement, he was the manager of Craftsman's Masonic Park in the Portage Lakes, then went to work at Barberton Citizens Hospital and retired in 1997.
He was an amateur horticulturist and a music enthusiast who always had a piano or organ in his home, and he belonged to an online virtual pipe organ club that featured pipe organs from around the world.
Dan was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Barbara; second wife of 15 years, Janett; and sister, Jayne Tyler. He is survived by his children, Danny (Susan), Aaron (Jennifer), and David Rowland, Amy Brand; step-children, Cindy Keifer, Daniel (Beverly) and Michael (Therese) Mayfield; grandchildren, Katie, Hannah, Amanda, Michael, Zachary, Abigail, Ariel (Ryan) Thompson, Kira Brand; great-grandson, Jude; and brother, Gary (Linda) Rowland.
Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., Akron on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
Full Military Honors will be performed at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Friday January 12, 2018 in honor of Dan.
