JACOB FAUBION

Jacob Smith Faubion was born at Liberty, Missouri, March 15, 1836, and departed this life at the home of his son, N. 0. Faubion at 7 o'clock Friday morning, March 22nd, 1918, aged 82 years and seven days. When a boy he lived with his parents in Clay county, Missouri, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Sarah A. E. Grey September 6, 1855, who died April 17, 1863, while her husband was serving as a Confederate soldier in the Civil war. To this union four children were born, two of whom survive and are J. H. Faubion, of Phillipsburg, Kansas, and Mrs. Matilda Wright, of Chilicothe, Missouri. He was again married to Nancy C. Wright of Breckenridge, Missouri, January 16, 1866. They came to Kansas in an early day and settled on a homestead 12 miles north of Phillipsburg where they made their home until ten years ago when they moved to this city, where they have since made their home.

Twelve children were born to this union, seven of whom are left to mourn the loss of a kind father. They are R. 0. Faubion, of Jewell City; Mrs. Bertha Whitney, of Agra; Mrs. Josie Thomas, of Flandreau, South Dakota; J. 0. Faubion, of Beloit, Kansas; Mrs. Etta Lake, of Phillipsburg; N. 0. Faubion, of Agra; and Mrs. Nellie Boomer, of Topeka.

Mr. Faubion leaves thirty-five grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. His health had not been good for a number of years. Seven weeks ago while visiting his son, N. 0. Faubion, he fell and suffered a compound fracture of the hip from which he never recovered but was continually bed ridden until his death. His suffering was intense but he showed remarkable patience. Uncle Smith, as he was familiarly called, was of a bright and cheerful disposition and had a good word for everyone. The children and their mother have the deep sympathy of a host of friends. Mr. Faubion will be sadly missed but his sufferings are now past, and he is at rest.

The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Phillipsburg by Dr. W. J. Meredith and the burial in the Phillipsburg cemetery, on Sunday afternoon, March 24th, 1918.
