Alton Jay Vernon
Alton was born on October 23,1906 in Vernal, Utah to Ada Allen and Andrew Jackson Vernon. He was married to Edna Ashby July 20, 1932, in the Manti LDS Temple.
He was employed as a hydrologist and surveyor for the U.S. Government. He worked at the General Land Office and Bureau of Reclamation for 30 Years. Alton also farmed.
He is survived by his wife Edna of Vernal; his sister, Mrs. Stella Thacker; three sons: Alton Deloy of Lakewood, Colorado, Glen K. of King Salmon, Alabama, and Ray L. of Tuba City, Arizona; three daughters: Mrs. Joseph (Belva) Calder; and Mrs. Sue O'Steen, both of Vernal, and Mrs. Ray (Shanna) Balhorn of Layton: 37 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Alton Jay Vernon, age 85, died December 28, 1991 at the Uintah Care Center.

Survived by his wife, Edna of Vernal; sons and daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Belva) Calder, Mrs. Sue Ann O'Sten, both Vernal; Deloy of Lakewood, Colo.; Glen K. of King Salmon, Alaska; Ray L. of Tuba City, Ariz.; Mrs. Ray (Shanna) Balhorn of Layton; 37 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Stella Thacker of Vernal.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., in the Maeser Stake Center. Friends may call at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary, Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. Burial will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery
