Frederick W. H. Sheffield, a promInent and highly respected resident of this city passed away early Tuesday morning at his home in the 87th year of his age. Frederick William Hotchkiss Sheffield was born at Saybrook, Conn. April 8, 1825. His grandfather and great-grandfather occupied the same pulpit as ministers there for 105 consecutive years. He first came to Utica in 1850 and in June 1854, he married Miss Sarah Kellogg, daughter of Spencer Kellogg. He removed from this city to Dubuque. Iowa in 1858 and engaged in business there, returning to Utica in 1876. He was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in this city. Besides his widow he leaves one son, James H. Sheffield, and one grandson Frederick Sheffield of New York.
