JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Lawrence Lee "Larry" McDaniel, 82, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 after a long illness surrounded by his family.
He was born in Glen Roy, Ohio, to the late Rev. H. L. McDaniel and late Vera Tolliver McDaniel. He has been a resident of Johnson City for the past 39 years.
He graduated from Athens High School, Athens,Ohio, in 1953.
Mr. McDaniel served two years in the U.S. Army as an armor crewman.
He worked 54 years in the telephone business: 25 years with North Electric, 15 years with Wyndham, and 15 years as a private contractor.
After he retired, his favorite hobbies were gardening and woodworking.
Mr. McDaniel was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his stepmother, Marcella Williams McDaniel; one half brother, Dr. Joseph McDaniel; and one daughter, Lisa McDaniel Klinglesmith.
Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Cordelia Gehringer McDaniel; three daughters, Christina McDaniel, Michele McDaniel Trempe, and Rebecca McDaniel Martin; one son, Sean McDaniel; eight granddaughters; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Lawrence McDaniel will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Monday with Rev. Gerald Casson officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Committal services will be held 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the U. S. National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. for those services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
