Harold Warner, 98, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at his residence at 1310 W. Madison St.
Harold Ralph Warner was born May 26, 1919 at Geddes, South Dakota to Henry F. Warner and Emma Benesh Warner. He graduated from Geddes High School in 1937 and received his Bachelor of Science from South Dakota State University in 1941. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a U.S. Army Officer and served from 1941 to 1946 in the North Atlantic during W.W. II, attaining the rank of Major. Harold Warner and Carol Flint were united in marriage on May 27, 1942. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned with his family to Geddes and worked at the Security State Bank, serving as President and Chairman of the Board from 1950 until his retirement in 1984. Harold served as a rural mail carrier in the Geddes community from 1953 to 1972.
Very active in church affairs, Harold was a life time member of the United Methodist Church, both in Geddes and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, serving in various positions, including choir director, Sunday school teacher and church board member, delegate to annual conference and on additional boards and committees. He also served for 15 years as a member of the South Dakota Methodist Conference Board of Pensions.
In support of his community, Harold also was a member of the Geddes School Board, the Commercial Club and was a founder and board member of Geddes Recreational Council and a member of the American Legion. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star beginning in 1941, serving as Worshipful Master for 3 years and Worthy Patron for 15 years. Upon retiring and relocating to Sioux Falls, he continued his participation in Masonic activities as a member of the York Rite Bodies, El Riad Shrine and Shrine Chanters, and High Twelve until his death.
A loving husband and father, Harold is survived by his two children, Judy Kimball and husband Kent of Enterprise, Alabama and Harold Warner, Jr. and his wife, Deanna of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his wife, Carol, in 2013.
Memorial services will begin 9:30 am Thursday at the Halladay-Peterson Chapel of Dow Rummel Village. Private interment will take place at the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery in Geddes, SD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Feeding South Dakota, 4701 N. Westport Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57107-0123.
