Obituary for Cora A. Moore
Cora A. Moore, 80, of Laurel, died January 4, 2018, at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Following a graveside service, the body was interred in the family plot in Corinth Cemetery on January 6.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Moore of Laurel; her daughter, Lori Stevens of Laurel; her parents, Cecil and Estelle Myrick of Heidelberg; and a brother, Maurice Myrick of Heidelberg.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Lamar of Heidelberg; brothers, Max Myrick of Heidelberg and Charles (Peggy) Myrick of Ellisville; three grandchildren; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

Born November 24, 1937, into a Jasper County farm family, she was quickly introduced to the hard work ethic. Graduating from Heidelberg High School in 1955 and JCJC in 1957, she began her employment at Masonite the next year in personnel services. She was noted for her phenomenal memory (ability to recall all badge numbers of the workers) and her resemblance to Jane Russell. She was often kiddingly dubbed "Jane".

In 1982, she was suddenly stricken with encephalitis which put her into a coma for weeks and left her with recurring seizures, resulting in early medical retirement. Thus began a series of afflictions which she accepted without a "why me" attitude. Cancer of the esophagus and nine years of blindness did not destroy her warm personality.

The death of her husband and her only child resulted in the need for the services of a nursing home. She has lived at Care Center of Laurel for the past six years. Known by the staff as a "no complainer", she seemed to be loved as one of their favorites.

Cora was through and through a beautiful human being and is deeply missed by all who knew her.
