Claribel Alma Emma Wilke Hannemann passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the age of 93 years in Fredericksburg, TX.
Claribel was born on July 31, 1928, to Felix Wilke and Mathilda Ahrens Wilke. She was the fourth child of five children. She was baptized and confirmed in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1945. On June 28, 1947, she married Waldemar "Wally" Carl Hannemann, the son of Fred J. and Caecila Sagebiel Hannemann.
She is survived by her children: Paul Hannemann & wife Janalee of Fredericksburg, Carol Rode & husband Bruce of Llano, Jeanne Hannemann of Fredericksburg, David Hannemann & wife Linda of Conroe, and Charles VanBerg & wife Bonnie of Mansfield, TX. She has eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren, and four step great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister Marian Wilke Horton of Sabinal, Texas.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, parents, brothers Alton Wilke, Louis Wilke, and Kenneth Wilke. Also, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Leroy Horton, Leola Wilke, Adeline Wilke Klein, Paul Hannemann, Herold "Hans" and Dorthy Hannemann, Ernst and Mattie Hannemann, Lillie Hannemann, Hilmar and Cora Hannemann Dittmar, Eugene and Margaret Hannemann, Raymond Hannemann, August and Pauline Hannemann, Anita Hannemann, Freddie and Peggy Hannemann
In the fall of 1945 Claribel started at the law offices of Agnes Sagebiel in the land title abstract company under the supervision of Edith Sagebiel. She was involved in creating a complete title abstract plant for the business. Her main job was keeping the abstract plant up to date by working in the Gillespie County Clerk's office and transferring all land title information to cards to add to the abstract plant.
She worked full time until her first child was born and then became a full time "hausfrau". Four children were born within five years and although that should have been enough to keep her busy she found time for Friday morning league bowling, PTA, PTA Cookbook Committee, and joined the Genealogical Society. After all of the children were old enough to be in school her former employer asked her to come back to work at the Sagebiel Law Office. Later, when the abstract plant was sold to Fredericksburg Title Company she went along with the plant and became an integral part of that title company until 1993 when she retired. After working 35 years with title work in Gillespie County and her great memory for details she became known for her vast knowledge of not only property information but of all things historical in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County as well as genealogy of not only her and her husband's ancestors including Hannemann, Wilke, Ahrens, and Sagebiel, but of many of the families in the county.
Claribel was active in the life of Zion Lutheran Church where she became a member after she married Wally. She served as a greeter, altar guild member, a member of the mixed choir, Women of the ELCA and served as treasurer for many years of the WELCA.
She was an avid seamstress sewing clothes for herself and her family and enjoyed counted cross stitch and knitting. In the years after retiring she created counted cross stitch Christmas stockings that will be treasured by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but was forced to stop creating them when her eyesight prevented her from seeing the intricate stitching charts.
Funeral services for Claribel Hannemann will be November 27, 2021 in Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ron Windecker officiating. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., November, 26 at Fredericksburg Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Zion Lutheran Church, Hill Country Memorial Hospice, Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of one's choice.
