James Edward Darnell 79, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
James was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church. He was an avid farmer and gardener. James was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Laura Darnell; daughter, Carolyn Stewart; sister, Mary Darnell; brothers, Mitchell Darnell, Willis Darnell, and J.D. Darnell; infant granddaughter, Shirley Marie.
Survivors include his wife, Marylin Darnell; sons, Wayne Darnell and wife Lisa, Dewey “ Dobie” Darnell, Mark Darnell and wife Pam, and Tim Darnell and wife Penny; mother of his children, Edith Darnell; grandchildren, Jennie, Brittany, MaKaylah, Jessica, Jerri, Julie, Jessee James, Anthony, Dillion, and Daniel; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Sidney Darnell and wife Shirley, Bascom Darnell and wife Wilma, Otis Darnell Sr., Kyle Darnell; sisters, Amly Jean Reed, Zady May Reed and husband Kenny; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home from 4pm to 6pm. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Marlin Jaynes officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Slant UMC Cemetery in Ft. Blackmore. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am.
