Don Eldon Bretz, 85, of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a battle with cancer.
Don was born Oct. 5, 1931 in Holmes County to the late Elmer and Florence (Spring) Bretz and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War having served nearly six years. He retired from Riblet in Holmesville having previously worked at Datacard. Don was an active member of Fredericksburg Church of Christ and had made his home near Fredericksburg for the past 35 years. He enjoyed driving his Mustang, riding 4-wheelers, gardening and mushroom hunting. He could often be found in the mornings having coffee with friends at Lem’s in Fredericksburg. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are daughters, Sharon Sampsel of Lake Buckhorn and Patty (Bill) Gilcrist of Wooster; a daughter-in-law, Angela Bretz of Fayetteville, NC; several grandchildren including Jason Bretz and Jennifer Blevins and great-grandchildren including great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Bretz and a sister, Wanda Bowers of Wooster. Don is also survived by good neighbors, Leland Hantzche and Rollin Parrot; dear friends, Dee, Jeff and Richard Pendlebury and Jeannie Smith who helped care for him and the coffee shop girls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie in 1999, a son Jim Bretz and a brother Gene Bretz.
Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Rev. Jeremiah Scadden officiating Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery
